    1/2 cup unsalted butter

    6–8 fresh sage leaves

    2 cups heavy cream

    1 cup whole milk

    3/4 cup granulated sugar

    5 large egg yolks

    1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

    Pinch of sea salt

    Optional:

Crushed candied pecans or a drizzle of brown butter for serving
