Chinese scientists have developed glowing plants using genes from fireflies and luminous fungi . Created by Magicpen Bio, the innovation has already been applied to over 20 species like orchids, sunflowers, and chrysanthemums — creating a real-life effect similar to the film Avatar.

Founder Li Renhan says the plants could transform urban lighting and tourism . Demonstrated at the Zhongguancun Forum, these plants need no electricity — only water and nutrients — offering a sustainable way to light up public spaces while reducing energy use
