The Mariana Trench, plunging nearly 11 kilometers beneath the Pacific Ocean, is the deepest known point on Earth’s seabed. Its most profound section, the Challenger Deep, is so remote and extreme that it would take over an hour for a small stone to reach the bottom due to the immense depth and resistance of water. Terminal velocity in water for an object like a stone is around 5 to 6 meters per second, but drag and current variations make the descent much slower than expected.
To put this in perspective, the trench is deeper than Mount Everest is tall. Pressure at the bottom exceeds 1,000 times the atmospheric pressure at sea level, enough to crush most submarines without reinforced hulls. Only a handful of crewed missions have ever descended to the floor, including dives by James Cameron and Victor Vescovo. The Mariana Trench remains one of Earth's most mysterious frontiers, hiding unknown lifeforms and geological secrets yet to be uncovered.

In Japan, some schools are teaching students the challenges of parenting through hands-on simulations.
Male students wear 7kg (15-pound) pregnancy vests to mimic the physical strain of carrying a baby, and they also take care of real infants under supervision.
This unique educational approach helps students—especially boys—better understand the responsibilities and emotional demands of parenting.
The goal is to promote empathy, gender equality, and shared family roles in a society facing declining birth rates.
By experiencing pregnancy and baby care firsthand, students gain a deeper appreciation for what it takes to raise a child. Similar programs exist in other countries as well, aiming to teach life skills and responsibility. In Japan, some schools are teaching students the challenges of parenting through hands-on simulations. Dinosaurs roamed Earth for an astonishingly long time — over 170 million years, not just 120 as often simplified.
From their emergence during the Late Triassic period about 230 million years ago, they evolved into a vast array of forms before their extinction 66 million years ago.
Among them, Stegosaurus, with its distinctive plates and tail spikes, lived around 155–150 million years ago in the Late Jurassic.
In contrast, Tyrannosaurus rex, one of the most iconic dinosaurs, lived much later during the Late Cretaceous, around 68–66 million years ago.
This means Stegosaurus had already been extinct for approximately 80 million years before T. rex ever walked the Earth.
To put that into perspective: the time separating Stegosaurus and T. rex is greater than the time between T. rex and humans.
This reveals the immense timescale of dinosaur evolution — they were not all living at once, as commonly portrayed in popular media.Dinosaurs roamed Earth for an astonishingly long time — over 170 million years, not just 120 as often simplified.
