Brendon Grimshaw bought Moyenne Island (Seychelles) in 1962 for $11k USD. He planted 16,000 trees by hand, reintroduced giant Aldabra tortoises and other wildlife, turning barren land into a thriving ecosystem. He refused multiple offers (including a reported $50M from a Saudi prince) to preserve it as a public nature reserve. It’s now Moyenne Island National Park. What a legend.
