A former Maryland daycare owner has been released from prison after serving time for shooting her husband when she discovered he was s*xually abusing children at the daycare she ran.

Shanteari Young says she stands by her actions and is focused on rebuilding her life. While behind bars she finalized her divorce and testified against her ex-husband, who was later convicted and sentenced to life in prison for abusing a child at the Lil Kidz Kastle daycare.

Now out of prison, Young is advocating for stronger training requirements for childcare workers to better identify and report abuse, and plans to launch a nonprofit to support survivors and their families.
