Chen San-Yuan, known as the “Pokémon Go Grandpa,” became famous for riding around Taipei with dozens of smartphones mounted on his bike—eventually reaching 72 devices.

He started playing Pokémon Go at age 66 with 11 phones, growing to 64 by 2020 and 72 by 2022 with sponsorship support. Rather than competing, he focused on collecting Pokémon and helping others by luring them.

At his peak, he played up to 20 hours a day and spent hundreds monthly on data and in-game items. He said the game kept him mentally sharp and socially active.

After a reported stroke in 2022, he largely disappeared from public view, with recent viral posts mostly showing old footage.
