Friends on a Boat

On May 26, 2013, Harrison Okene, a cook aboard the Jascon-4, was using the bathroom when a massive wave capsized the tugboat off Nigeria’s coast. Trapped 100 feet underwater, he found a small air pocket in a cabin and survived in darkness for 60 hours with no food or light.

Rescuers arrived days later expecting only bodies—until a diver felt a hand reach out. Harrison was alive.

After a risky decompression, he recovered… and two years later, became a professional diver—trained by the very man who saved him.

Boat ride

In February 2016, an 18-month-old German Shepherd named Luna slipped off a fishing boat near San Clemente Island and disappeared into the open ocean . Her owner, Nick Haworth, searched desperately but eventually had to leave, believing she was gone.

But Luna’s story didn’t end there.

Against all odds, she swam nearly two miles to shore, reaching a remote island used by the United States Navy. The area was isolated, controlled, and far from an easy place to survive. Yet, Luna adapted.

For five weeks, she lived completely alone, surviving by hunting small animals and using whatever resources she could find . When Navy personnel finally spotted her, she was underweight but alert and surprisingly calm.

Soon after, Luna was safely reunited with her owner .

Her survival wasn’t just luck — it was resilience, instinct, and the incredible will to keep going, even when hope seemed lost.

Iran originally used small boats to plant mines on the Strait of Hormuz after the U.S. and Israel launched strikes on the country, to deter boats from passing through. It now says it cannot find the mines as many of them drifted from their original locations, causing complications in opening the Strait.
