Add the sea salt and vanilla extract, and mix well. Chill the mixture in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results. Pour the chilled base into your ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions (typically 20–25 minutes). Once churned, transfer to a freezer-safe container, layering in extra spoonfuls of dulce de leche if desired. Swirl gently with a knife. Freeze for at least 4 hours, or until firm. Serve in bowls or cones with an optional drizzle of warm dulce de leche.
