A teacher in New London is under investigation following allegations of inappropriate behavior inside a classroom restroom while students were nearby

According to reports, Laurie Laubenstein, 58, who worked at Lincoln Elementary School, came under scrutiny after coworkers noticed unusual behavior and discovered suspicious powder residue along with used tissues in the restroom area. An anonymous report reportedly led a school resource officer to review the situation

Samples collected during the inquiry were later confirmed to be an illegal substance. Investigators also reported finding additional prohibited material among her personal belongings

Authorities state she acknowledged personal use before school hours and again while inside the building, adding that she believed she had handled the situation responsibly and maintained student safety.

She now faces legal charges related to possession of a controlled substance, with added seriousness due to the incident allegedly occurring near a school The school district has placed her on administrative leave and informed families that students are not believed to have been harmed
