OpenAI Aims to Engage College Students with AI Technology
AI chatbots like OpenAI’s ChatGPT have been shown repeatedly to provide false information, hallucinate completely made-up sources and facts, and lead people astray with their confidently wrong answers to questions. For that reason, AI tools are viewed with skepticism by many educators. So, of course, OpenAI and its competitors are targeting colleges...

In an astonishing feat of ancient biology, scientists in Russia successfully revived two nematodes that had been frozen in Siberian permafrost for over 30,000 and 40,000 years, respectively. These microscopic worms were part of a batch of 300 specimens extracted from layers of ice dating back to the Pleistocene epoch. Once thawed, both nematodes began moving and eating—demonstrating metabolic activity after tens of thousands of years in suspended animation.

This discovery has profound implications for our understanding of extremophile life and the boundaries of biological resilience. It also raises questions about the possibility of reviving other long-extinct organisms as global temperatures rise and permafrost melts, potentially unlocking both scientific breakthroughs—and biosecurity concerns.

    Seafood Mac and Cheese

    Ingredients

    8 oz elbow macaroni
2 cups shredded seafood mix (shrimp, crab, scallops)
    4 cups shredded cheddar cheese
    2 cups milk
    1/4 cup butter
    1/4 cup all-purpose flour
    1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
    1/2 teaspoon onion powder
    Salt and pepper to taste
1/2 cup breadcrumbs (optional for topping)

    Directions

    1. Start by cooking the elbow macaroni according to the package instructions, then drain and set aside.
    2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for a minute or two to make a smooth roux.
    3. Gradually pour in the milk, whisking constantly until the mixture is smooth and begins to thicken.
    4. Add the shredded cheddar cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Stir everything together until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is creamy.
    5. Gently fold the seafood mix and cooked macaroni into the cheesy sauce, making sure everything is nicely combined.
    6. Pour the mixture into a baking dish. If you like a little crunch, sprinkle the breadcrumbs evenly over the top.
    7. Bake in a preheated 350°F (175°C) oven for 20-25 minutes, until the top is golden and everything is bubbling.
    8. Let it cool just a tad before serving up a warm, comforting scoop.
