• Hungarian Töltött Káposzta – Stuffed Cabbage Rolls

    A hearty and savory Hungarian dish of cabbage leaves filled with spiced pork and rice, simmered in a tomato-paprika sauce with smoked meat.

    Ingredients (Serves 4):

    * 1 large head of cabbage (leaves separated and softened)
    * 400g ground pork
    * 100g rice (parboiled)
    * 1 egg
    * 2 garlic cloves, minced
    * 1 tsp sweet paprika
    * 400g canned tomatoes
    * 200g smoked bacon or sausage (optional)
    * Salt, pepper, oil

    Instructions:

    1. Mix pork, rice, egg, garlic, paprika, salt, and pepper.
    2. Fill each cabbage leaf with meat mixture and roll tightly.
    3. Layer rolls in a pot with chopped smoked meat and tomatoes.
    4. Cover with water and simmer for 1.5–2 hours.

    Best the next day when flavors deepen. Add a little sauerkraut for tang.
