Crunchy Fried Shrimp
Extra Crispy Buttermilk Fried Shrimp with Golden Crust
Ingredients:
1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined (tails on)
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cornstarch
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
Salt and black pepper, to taste
Vegetable oil, for frying
Lemon wedges, for serving
Dipping sauce (cocktail, remoulade, or tartar)
Directions:
In a bowl, marinate the shrimp in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes (or up to 2 hours in the fridge).
In another bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika, cayenne (if using), salt, and pepper.
Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
Remove shrimp from buttermilk, letting excess drip off, and dredge in the flour mixture until fully coated.
Fry shrimp in batches, 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crisp.
Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
Serve hot with lemon wedges and your favorite dipping sauce.
