Classic Salisbury Steak with Rich Onion Mushroom Gravy
Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 cup sliced mushrooms
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (for thickening)
Preparation Steps:
1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
2. Shape the mixture into 4 oval patties.
3. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4 minutes on each side until browned. Remove and set aside.
4. In the same skillet, add sliced mushrooms and onion. Sauté until soft, about 5 minutes.
5. Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, scraping the bottom of the pan.
6. Bring to a simmer and return the patties to the skillet. Cook on low for 10 minutes.
7. Stir in the cornstarch mixture to thicken the gravy, cooking for an additional 2-3 minutes.
8. Serve the patties topped with the rich onion mushroom gravy.
