Amish Hamburger Steak Bake

๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Amish Hamburger Steak Bake ๐Ÿ”

Ingredients:

1 1/2 lbs ground beef
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
Salt and pepper to taste
2 cups milk, divided
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
4-5 medium russet potatoes, thinly sliced
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions:

Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Prepare the Ground Beef:
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
Form Patties:
Shape the beef mixture into patties (about 4-6 patties, depending on your preference).
Brown the Patties:
In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the patties on both sides (about 3-4 minutes per side). They don’t need to be fully cooked through, as they will finish cooking in the oven. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
Make the Sauce:
In the same skillet, whisk together 1 1/2 cups of milk and the flour until smooth. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens (about 3-5 minutes). Remove from heat.
Layer the Ingredients:
In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes on the bottom. Top with half of the sliced onions, followed by the browned hamburger patties. Pour the thickened milk mixture over the patties. Layer the remaining potatoes and onions on top.
Add Cheese:
Pour the remaining 1/2 cup of milk over the top and sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese.
Bake:
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is bubbly and golden.
Serve:
Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy this hearty and comforting dish!
