Teriyaki Tofu Sticks

Teriyaki Tofu Sticks
These Teriyaki Tofu Sticks are a delicious and easy-to-make dish that’s perfect as an appetizer or a light meal. The combination of crispy tofu and savory teriyaki sauce wrapped in nori makes for a delightful treat. Here’s how to make them:
Ingredients:
300g firm tofu, cut into equal-sized sticks
1-2 sheets of nori seaweed, cut to size suitable for wrapping around tofu
30g cornflour (cornstarch)
1 tbsp mirin
1 tbsp brown sugar (or honey)
3 tbsp light soy sauce
5 tbsp water
Instructions:
Prepare the Tofu:
Press the tofu to remove excess moisture. You can do this by wrapping it in a clean kitchen towel and placing a heavy object on top for about 15-20 minutes. Once pressed, cut the tofu into equal-sized sticks.
Coat the Tofu:
Place the cornflour (cornstarch) in a shallow dish. Roll each tofu stick in the cornflour until evenly coated. Shake off any excess.
Heat the Oil:
In a non-stick skillet or frying pan, heat a small amount of oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the coated tofu sticks and fry until golden and crispy on all sides, about 3-4 minutes per side. Remove from the pan and set aside.
Make the Teriyaki Sauce:
In a small bowl, whisk together the mirin, brown sugar (or honey), light soy sauce, and water until the sugar is dissolved.
Combine Tofu and Sauce:
In the same skillet, pour in the teriyaki sauce and bring it to a simmer. Add the crispy tofu sticks back into the pan, tossing gently to coat them in the sauce. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
Wrap with Nori:
Take a piece of nori and wrap it around each teriyaki tofu stick. You can use a little water to help seal the nori if needed.
Serve:
Serve the teriyaki tofu sticks warm, and enjoy them as a tasty snack or appetizer!
