Ingredients:

3 tbsp vegetable or canola oil (or other neutral oil)
4 tsp ginger, finely minced
5 large garlic cloves, minced (about 4 tsp)
1 large onion, finely diced
500g / 1 lb beef mince (ground beef)
3/4 tsp cooking salt / kosher salt
1 tsp cayenne pepper or chili powder (pure, not US chili powder spice mix; omit for less spice)
1 1/4 tsp garam masala
1 1/4 tsp cumin powder
1 1/4 tsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1 cup water
For Garnish:

1 green cayenne pepper, deseeded and finely sliced
Fresh cilantro/coriander leaves
Plain yogurt or Mint yogurt (recipe below)
Mint Yogurt (optional):

3/4 cup plain yogurt
1/2 cup (lightly packed) mint leaves
1/4 tsp cooking salt / kosher salt
Instructions:

Heat the Oil:
In a large skillet or pot, heat the vegetable or canola oil over medium heat.
Sauté Aromatics:
Add the minced ginger, garlic, and diced onion to the pan. Sauté until the onions are translucent and fragrant, about 5-7 minutes.
Cook the Beef:
Add the beef mince to the pan, breaking it apart with a spoon. Cook until browned and cooked through.
Add Spices:
Stir in the cooking salt, cayenne pepper (if using), garam masala, cumin powder, coriander powder, and turmeric powder. Cook for another 2-3 minutes to toast the spices.
Add Water:
Pour in 1 cup of water and bring the mixture to a simmer. Reduce the heat to low and let it cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.
Prepare the Mint Yogurt (Optional):
In a small bowl, combine the plain yogurt, mint leaves, and salt. Mix until smooth and set aside.
Serve:
Garnish the Qeema with sliced green cayenne pepper and fresh cilantro/coriander leaves. Serve hot with plain yogurt or mint yogurt on the side. Enjoy this flavorful dish with rice or naan! ๐ŸŒŸ
